End Citizens United Endorses Tedra Cobb in NY-21

Nov 14, 2019

Cobb is rejecting corporate PAC and lobbyist money

Republican incumbent Rep. Elise Stefanik has taken over $1.5 million from corporate PACs over the course of her career

End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Tedra Cobb for Congress in New York’s 21st Congressional District. A committed reformer, Cobb has a proven record of increasing transparency and accountability in government. Cobb is relying on a grassroots movement of small, individual donors to fund her campaign and is rejecting corporate PAC and lobbyist money.

“Tedra Cobb improved government transparency in the St. Lawrence County Legislature and will continue to do so in Congress,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “As a legislator, Tedra passed bold ethics reform bills and led a successful initiative to lower the cost of prescription drugs for New Yorkers. Her opponent, Rep. Elise Stefanik, has pocketed over $40,000 from Big Pharma and voted against lowering the cost of prescription drugs. Tedra Cobb is the clear choice for new leadership in Northern New York, and End Citizens United is proud to endorse her.”

“I’m running for Congress because I want to bring open and accountable leadership to New Yorkers,” said Tedra Cobb. “The influence of dark money is rigging the system in Washington and swaying politicians’ votes on health care. Lowering the cost of prescription drugs is personal to me, as it is to many New Yorkers. In 2018, there were three pharmaceutical lobbyists for every member of the House. This is wrong, and it’s why I’m not taking a dime of corporate PAC or lobbyist money because I intend to fight against Big Pharma’s corrupting influence over Congress. I’m proud to receive End Citizens United’s endorsement, and I look forward to continuing the fight to root out government corruption alongside them.”

Cobb has helped build a growing movement of ECU-endorsed candidates rejecting corporate PAC money throughout the country, and specifically in New York, including Rep. Max Rose (NY-11), Rep. Antonio Delgado (NY-19), and Rep. Anthony Brindisi (NY-22). In the 116th Congress, nearly 60 members are refusing to take corporate PAC money, which includes 26 other members of the House freshman class who flipped their district.

ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington D.C. so government works for all Americans. The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 7,000 in New York’s 21st Congressional District, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
