Washington, D.C. – End Citizens United (ECU) today launched a new $50,000 digital ad campaign in Kentucky highlighting Senator Mitch McConnell as the leading figure behind political corruption in Washington and exposing his obstruction of the For the People Act. The ad––ECU’s first independent expenditure of the 2020 election cycle––kicks off the group’s efforts against McConnell for the 2020 election cycle.
“Senator McConnell has a career-long record of putting the corporate special interests that keep him in power ahead of Kentucky families,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “McConnell is the go-to politician for mega-donors and special interests looking to buy access and rig the system against everyday Americans. He’s the best Senator money can buy. Meanwhile, the needs and voices of hardworking Kentuckians fall on McConnell’s deaf ears. It’s time for new leadership. We’ll expose his horrendous record of doing the bidding of Big Money special interests at the expense of his constituents.”
The statewide ad campaign will be both display and video ads. The ads target women, independents, and non-college educated men. The ads will run on a variety of platforms including Facebook, Youtube, and local news outlets.
A recent poll commissioned by ECU shows Kentucky Republicans are struggling to garner voter support, even as 55 percent of Kentuckians approve of President Trump. Additionally, 63 percent of Kentuckians think McConnell is more accountable to big donors than to constituents.
Unlike dark money groups, ECU is entirely transparent and every penny is disclosed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). ECU is entirely grassroots-funded with an average contribution of $14. ECU is fighting to give a voice to everyday families in a system dominated by big money special interests.
