End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the results of the Democratic primary for Georgia Secretary of State:
“Congratulations to Bee Nguyen on advancing to the runoff in the Democratic primary for Georgia Secretary of State. This is an important moment in Georgia. Americans want fair elections, where we all have the freedom to vote and make our voices heard on important issues. Unfortunately, Georgia is ground zero in a nationwide coordinated attack on that freedom. Radical Republicans are working to sabotage, rig, and overturn elections and silence the voice and vote of the people of Georgia they don’t agree with.
“As a member of the state legislature, she’s fought hard to protect and expand the freedom to vote, successfully overturning the ‘exact match’ voter registration law, which restored the freedom to vote for the 53,000 Georgians impacted by the policy, ensuring that those Georgians can make their voices heard on the issues that matter most. As Secretary of State, she’ll work hard to protect access to the ballot and counter efforts from self-serving politicians to sabotage, rig, or overturn Georgia elections. We look forward to helping her win the runoff and then win again this November.”
The winner of the runoff will face off against Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger. Raffensberger is a self-serving, anti-voter politician. He was inducted into the LAV voter suppression Hall of Shame and is a supporter of Georgia’s despicable SB 202, which limits access to the ballot box by removing accessible methods of voting, criminalizing handing out water to voters waiting in line, and allowing partisan politicians to take control of election administration away from trusted local officials.
ECU // LAV is a leading anti-corruption and voting rights group. The grassroots-funded political action committee raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle to elect candidates fighting to limit the influence of big money in politics and protect the freedom to vote. Nguyen is part of its first ever “Democracy Defenders” program for preeminent Secretary of State and Attorney General candidates in the 2022 cycle. ECU // LAV will spend $7 million in key Attorney General and Secretary of State races across the country, including in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Texas, and Wisconsin. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including over 75,000 in Georgia.
