Today, End Citizens United // Let America Vote endorsed members of the Democratic House leadership team for re-election. The members include: Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, Assistant Speaker Kathleen Clark, Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney, and Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Pete Aguilar.
Throughout their time in Congress, these leaders have been working tirelessly to fight for the people’s interests. They led the push to pass the For the People Act in the House, making it House Democrats’ top priority by making the bill H.R. 1, and later led the effort to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. The once-in-a-generation bill was aimed at protecting the freedom to vote, ending dark money, banning partisan gerrymandering, rooting out corruption in Washington, and limiting the power of lobbyists by providing more transparency into lobbyist fundraising. Their leadership and advocacy was instrumental in getting the bill as far as it did.
Speaker Pelosi, in particular, has been one of the fiercest advocates for getting dark money out of our politics, protecting the freedom to vote, and fighting to make our government work for the people.
“With great respect for their leadership and outside mobilization, I am proud to work alongside End Citizens United // Let America Vote in the fight to make our democracy work For The People,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “In our work together, House Democrats advanced historic reforms to protect the voice and vote of every American, secure our elections, defend our democracy, take big dark money out of our politics, and empower small grassroots donors. I am excited to partner with End Citizens United // Let America Vote in my reelection and look forward to continuing our work to make our government cleaner, more open, and accountable.”
“Never before have House Democrats had a leadership team so committed to passing anti-corruption and voting rights legislation. These members have proven themselves to be true advocates for the people. It is essential that this team remain in Washington to fight against bad faith GOP attacks on our elections,” said President of End Citizens United // Let America Vote Tiffany Muller. “We’re excited to endorse this team of incredible leaders, and we look forward to continuing to fight the good fight alongside them.”
“I am proud to be endorsed once again by End Citizens United // Let America Vote and remain committed to pushing through government reform priorities in Congress on behalf of voters in Maryland’s Fifth District and around the country. Blatant attempts to scale back voter protections and weaken our democracy are rampant following the disastrous Shelby v. Holder and Citizens United decisions. It is critical that we put the power back in the hands of voters, eliminate dark money in politics, and safeguard our democracy, and I look forward to continuing the fight to achieve that end,” said Leader Hoyer.
“I greatly appreciate the support of End Citizens United // Let America Vote and the work they are doing to promote our shared values and help Democrats keep the Majority in the House,” said Rep. James Clyburn.
“The right to vote is the most precious, most sacred tool we have in protecting our democracy. I’m incredibly honored to have the partnership and support of End Citizens United // Let America Vote at this critical moment. Together, we are committed to getting dark money out of politics and protecting and preserving everyone’s right to the ballot box,” said Rep. Katherine Clark.
“I’m proud to receive the endorsement of End Citizens United // Let America Vote and look forward to building upon the work we’ve already done to advance crucial, once-in-a-generation democracy reform. Now more than ever, it’s essential to achieve our common goals of cleaning up corruption in Washington and ending the era of voter suppression once and for all,” said Chairman Hakeem Jeffries.
“Folks in the Hudson Valley and across the country deserve a government that is working for them, not for special interests. I have always fought to increase transparency, end the influence of dark money in politics, and protect voting rights, which is why I am so honored to receive the endorsement from End Citizens United // Let America Vote, ” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.
“As a member of the House Administration Committee, which oversees voting rights, I’m proud to have led efforts to make it easier to vote and reform our broken campaign finance laws. I’m honored to be endorsed by End Citizens United // Let America Vote, and I’ll continue to fight everyday to defend our democracy, get big money out of politics, and make our elections accessible for all,” said Congressman Pete Aguilar.
