End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Elissa Slotkin for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. This is Slotkin’s first endorsement and ECU // LAV’s first Senate endorsement of the 2024 cycle.
“Not only will Elissa Slotkin be an exceptional leader to represent Michigan families in the U.S. Senate, but she’s also demonstrated over and over again her commitment to getting corporate money out of politics and making Washington more accountable to voters,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “Elissa knows that what’s holding up progress is a system that too often serves the wealthy and well-connected instead of regular people. From day one, she has led the fight to change that. She’s never taken a dime of corporate PAC money, is working to ban corporate PACs and ban members of Congress from trading stocks, and has stood up to make our democracy stronger and more transparent.”
Muller added, “We’ve been with Elissa Slotkin from the start and are proud to endorse her. We look forward to helping her become Michigan’s next U.S. Senator.”
“For too long, our government has been working for big business and the wealthy instead of prioritizing Michigan’s families,” said Slotkin. “In Congress I’ve worked to change that — it’s why I’ve fought for legislation to ban corporate PACs altogether, block members of Congress from trading stocks, and require them to disclose any cryptocurrency holdings. Voters deserve to know that their elected leaders are working on their behalf, not looking out for our own financial interests. Cleaning up DC will continue to be a top priority for me in the Senate, and I’m proud to have ECU // LAV’s support so we can get the job done.”
Slotkin has become a leader among leaders in the fight to protect our democracy. She refuses to accept corporate PAC money, cosponsored a bill to ban corporate PACs from our elections, and twice cosponsored and voted for the For the People Act – legislation that would end dark money, protect the freedom to vote, establish ironclad ethics rules, and stop gerrymandering. In 2022, Slotkin received an “A” on ECU // LAV’s legislative scorecard on anti-corruption and voting rights efforts.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than four million members nationwide.
