ECU // LAV, which has been a major supporter of Kim since his historic 2018 campaign that flipped NJ-03, is the first national organization to endorse Kim for U.S. Senate
End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Congressman Andy Kim for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey—his first national endorsement for U.S Senate. Congressman Kim, who has refused to take a dime of corporate PAC money throughout his time in Congress, is one of the fiercest champions in the democracy reform movement. Following the indictment of U.S. Senator Bob Menedez last Friday, ECU // LAV and Congressman Kim both called for him to immediately resign
“Since his first campaign, Congressman Andy Kim has been leading the fight to root out corruption and make government work for everyday New Jerseyans, not deep pocketed special interests,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “Now more than ever, in the face of galling allegations of rampant corruption, New Jerseyans deserve a Senator like Andy Kim who is guided by decency, not greed. Instead of using public office to line his pockets with gold and riches, Andy Kim has put the people in power and refused corporate PAC money. Once again, we’re proud to endorse Andy Kim and we’re excited to make sure he gets elected.”
“For the government to serve the people, policy can’t be decided by corporate PACs and dark money. I’m proud to have some of the strongest grassroots support in the country and to have never accepted a dime of corporate PAC money,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I’ll always stand shoulder to shoulder with End Citizens United // Let America Vote in working to root out corruption, enact meaningful campaign finance reform, strengthen our ethics laws, and protect voting rights. Together we can restore trust and integrity in government, return power to the people, and strengthen our democracy.”
With ECU // LAV’s endorsement and support, Congressman Kim was first elected to the House in 2018 as part of the historic class that flipped the chamber by promising to stand up for working families––not special interests and big corporations—and working to protect and expand voting rights. Since day one, he has followed through on his promise to return power to New Jerseyans by not accepting corporate PAC money and cosponsoring and voting for the For the People Act and the Freedom to Vote Act—once-in-a-generation anti-corruption and pro-democracy legislation that would stop billionaires and corporate special interests from buying our elections, shine a light on dark money, end partisan gerrymandering, protect the freedom to vote, and institute iron-clad ethics laws.
Earlier this year, Congressman Kim was part of the first slate of ECU // LAV’s Congressional endorsements, highlighting his strong record of anti-corruption and pro-democracy leadership—including earning an “A+” on ECU // LAV’s 2022 legislative scorecard.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than four million members nationwide.
