End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, honoring the civil and voting rights legend:
“During a time when protecting democracy continues to be a top concern for Americans, we are proud to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the inspiring work he did to safeguard voters of color from discrimination at the ballot box and beyond.
“In the recent election cycle, corrupt politicians across the country ran on a platform of stripping Americans’ most fundamental right: the freedom to vote. They were attempting to turn back the hands of time to one of the darkest eras of our nation’s history. Thankfully, the American people were forceful in their rejection of these extremists.
“Despite the progress we have made as a nation, the dangerous rhetoric on voting rights from Republicans is a reminder that we cannot relent in the fight to make a more just union. Democracy is a fragile experiment, and it’s incumbent on all of us to continue the incredible work of Dr. King to make sure every voice is heard.”
