End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in observance of Juneteenth, which celebrates the official day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation two and a half years after it had been issued:
“157 years ago today, the last enslaved Black Americans in America were freed, ending the abomination of slavery in the United States. While this day is a cause for celebration and joy, our fight against the stain slavery has left on our nation, and the racism, injustice, and inequality that persists today, has not ended. Still today, voting rights are being systematically stripped away from Black communities with an intensity not seen in generations. On this Juneteenth, we commit to fight harder than ever to ensure every American has the freedom to vote and have their voice heard and counted in our democracy.”
