End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement on reports that No Labels is going to abandon its third party presidential campaign:
“Good riddance. Despite milking their billionaire cash cows to form a well-funded operation, No Labels made a grave political miscalculation by arrogantly believing they could deceive the American people. We’re proud of the work we did alongside our partners to expose this corrupt dark money grift from undermining this election. Congress and regulators should take action to prevent it from ever happening again. Let this be a clear warning to the billionaires and corporate special interests: your hostile attempts at overtaking our democracy will always end in failure.”
End Citizens United has been actively engaged with allies to prevent No Labels’ dark money operation from undermining our elections. In January, ECU filed complaints with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against No Labels alleging fraudulent misuse of its 501(c)(4) nonprofit status. The IRS complaint was also sent to the 27 states where No Labels is registered to solicit charitable contributions. The complaints followed a letter sent by ECU and eight other pro-democracy organizations warning No Labels to reveal their donors or face legal challenges.
