End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the primary election results in CA-47:
“Congratulations to Congresswoman Katie Porter on advancing to the general election. There are few bigger champions of taking on corporate corruption than Congresswoman Porter. During her time in Congress, she has refused to ever accept a single penny from corporate PACs or lobbyists, so Californians know she’s working for them–and only them. From taking on Big Pharma by voting to lower the cost of life-saving prescription drugs, to taking on Big Oil and Gas companies by voting to stop gas price gouging, Congresswoman Porter is working every single day to take on corrupt corporations and put more money in the pockets of California families.
“Congresswoman Porter is running against Scott Baugh, one of California’s most corrupt and self-serving politicians. Baugh has a long history of corruption. When he first ran for office, Baugh was embroiled in a campaign finance scandal where he failed to report a four-figure donation from the spouse of a sham candidate who was running to split the Democratic vote in a state legislative district. Baugh was charged with 4 felonies and 18 misdemeanors and eventually admitted to 11 violations of California campaign finance law and was forced to pay a $47,900 fine. What’s worse, in an extraordinarily self-serving move, when Baugh got elected to the state assembly, he pushed for legislation that would have made it easier for him to win his own case, while it was still ongoing.
“Baugh wants to go to Congress to continue his self-serving politics, which is why it is so important we re-elect anti-corruption champion Congresswoman Katie Porter.”
