End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund released its State Democracy Scorecard, an assessment of the health of democracy in all 50 states and their warning signs, areas for advancement, and key democracy defenders ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. Kansas received an “F” on the scorecard in large part due to restrictive and dangerous policies enacted during and after Kobach’s tenure as secretary of state.
With restrictive voting rights laws, average anti-corruption laws, and a lack of democracy subversion protections, Kansas has one of the weakest democracies in the nation. Kansas Attorney General candidate Kris Kobach has a radical record that will further jeopardize the health of the state’s already failing democracy if he is elected.
Kobach has:
-
Purged thousands from voter rolls, including many erroneously.
-
Led the sham Trump voter fraud taskforce that disbanded after finding no voter fraud.
-
Promoted the Big Lie about the 2020 election and continues to sow distrust in Kansas’ elections.
“Kansas voters have shown again and again that they don’t want Kris Kobach serving in any capacity for public office after his disastrous tenure as secretary of state. Whether it’s their racially gerrymandered congressional map, or laws that criminalize election workers for helping voters, or wrongful voter purging, Kansas’ democracy is weak,” said ECU / LAV President Tiffany Muller. “The voters of Kansas deserve an Attorney General that is prepared to protect election officials, expand and protect the freedom to vote, ensure fair and equal representation, and uphold the will of the people. ”
