Lisa Scheller Talks A Big Game On Corruption, Yet Heaps Praise On Corrupt Party Bosses

Sep 01, 2020

Scheller accepts corporate PAC money and advocates for unlimited contributions to political campaigns

Lisa Scheller, Republican challenger in PA-07, talks a big game on corruption, stating in a recent ad that she would “Hold the corrupt politicians accountable.” But a quick look at Scheller’s record suggests she would be just another cog in the wheel of Washington corruption.

As a prominent mega-donor in Pennsylvania politics, Lisa Scheller has repeatedly used her wealth to advance her political aspirations. In October 2019, days after launching her campaign, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy endorsed Scheller. Just over a month later, Scheller wrote a $1,000 check to McCarthy’s re-election campaign. Pay-to-play aside, McCarthy rallied the entire GOP caucus in 2019 to oppose the For the People Act (H.R.1), the most sweeping ethics reform bill in a generation. McCarthy has also dismissed concerns about government spending at Trump properties, and even patronized them himself.

In the contentious June primary, Scheller squeaked-out a win by latching herself onto President Trump and his corporate special interest-driven agenda. As the most corrupt President of all time, there’s no shortage of corruption in Trump’s administration. After all, the President was impeached for…corruption.

“Lisa Scheller talks a big game when it comes to corruption, but behind that commitment is smoke and mirrors,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United. “Lisa has never had any credibility on anti-corruption and she never will because she’s embraced the likes of President Trump and Kevin McCarthy, two of the most corrupt figures in all of Washington. She’s trying to hijack Susan Wild’s message of rooting out corruption because it’s clearly resonating with voters.”

In January 2020, End Citizens United Action Fund released its first annual legislative scorecard to track and grade every Member of Congress on money in politics and government reform issues. Congresswoman Wild received a score of “A+”. From increasing transparency to strengthening government ethics and protecting our elections, Wild has consistently supported key bills to root out corruption.
