Speech Hosted by ECU Action Fund at Union Station
With fifty-five days until Election Day, End Citizens United Action Fund hosted House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer for a major policy speech on government reform. Joined by End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller and Rep. John Sarbanes, Chair of the Democracy Reform Task Force, Hoyer outlined the ways that a House Democratic Majority would reform government to make it more responsive and accountable to the people.
In the speech, Hoyer discussed how a House Democratic Majority would return the country to a government that is of, by, and for the people by overhauling our campaign finance system, renewing Congress’ oversight role, restoring voting rights, supporting redistricting reform, strengthening ethics standards, and modernizing government technology. “I was honored to be hosted by the End Citizens United Action Fund today to lay out a reform agenda for House Democrats, should we win the Majority. In the opening days of a Democratic Majority, we must move forward with a package of reforms that renew Americans’ faith in their government and demonstrate that Democrats can lead on tackling our most pressing challenges,” said House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer.
“Reform is the only way to win back people’s trust in government – and the only way for Congress to truly take on the big issues of the day like the rising cost of health care, prescription drug prices, or an economy that works for everyone,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United. “The American public is demanding real reform and Congress should make it the first item on their agenda in 2019.”
The event was hosted by ECU Action Fund which works to harness the power of its grassroots members to encourage Congress to pass reform legislation.
