End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in response to the Michigan Republican Party endorsing conspiracy theorists Kristina Karamo, for Secretary of State, and Matt DePerno, for Attorney General:
“With the Michigan Republican Party’s endorsements today, the stakes of the Michigan Secretary of State and Attorney General races couldn’t be higher. Michigan Republicans endorsed two dangerous, self-serving conspiracy theorists in Matt DePerno and Kristina Karamo. Karamo has spread lies about the safe and secure 2020 election and has made it clear that she would restrict the freedom to vote in Michigan by making it harder to use absentee ballots and other accessible methods of voting. She would also sabotage Michigan elections, overturning and rigging the election results for her political allies, silencing the will of the people of Michigan.
“DePerno has also spread dangerous conspiracies about the 2020 election, calling it “garbage,” and promoting the Big Lie. He exploited that lie to line his own pockets, starting a sham legal fund that he actually used to pay himself. He supports throwing out legally cast ballots and removing voters from the rolls, and he’s made personal threats against Attorney General Nessel. He even hosted a rally with armed militia members who have called for violent overthrow of the government. Someone with such extreme views who endorses violence and conspiracies should not be in charge of law enforcement in Michigan and cannot be trusted to keep Michigan safe.”
