End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement praising Senator Jon Tester for introducing the Corporations Are Not People Amendment and the Sunlight for Unaccountable Nonprofits Act (SUN Act):
“Since the disastrous Citizens United decision, corporations and billionaires have been able to spend billions in dark money to buy power and influence in Washington–all in an effort to pad their bottom line and rip off working families. Senator Tester’s bills are important because they’ll unrig the system to make our government work for the people, not wealthy special interests. These measures will increase transparency and ensure that the people decide who wins elections, not corporate America.”
Senator Tester’s Corporations Are Not People Amendment would take aim at the Citizens United decision that said corporations are people that can spend unlimited amounts of money in our elections.
His Sunlight for Unaccountable Nonprofits Act (SUN Act) would help end dark money by requiring dark money groups that spend in our elections to disclose any donors above $5,000.
