Six in ten Wisconsinites believe abortion should be legal in most or all cases
After the GOP’s dark money allies spent over $1.1 billion in dark money to capture the courts to roll back reproductive freedom, Senate Republicans like Ron Johnson have now voted to block protecting people’s healthcare and reproductive freedom. Senator Johnson showed today that he stands on the side of radical, partisan extremists who want to criminalize abortion and punish doctors, and people who decide to have an abortion, despite the fact that polls show 6 in 10 Wisconsinites believe abortion should be legal in most or all cases.
Senator Johnson has long pushed to overturn Roe v. Wade and prevent people in Wisconsin from accessing the healthcare they need, while downplaying the effects of rolling back reproductive freedoms. When discussing the impact repealing Roe v. Wade would have, Johnson stated: “I don’t view that [as] such a huge threat to women’s health. I think – I think things would be just fine.” Johnson has also said if individuals don’t like the abortion laws in their state, they simply “can move” and endorsed a complete ban on abortion in Wisconsin, saying that the 6,000 abortions in Wisconsin each year are “6,000 too many.”
Wisconsinites deserve a Senator who doesn’t side with billionaire dark money interests to try to roll back their freedoms and strip away their right to make their own healthcare decisions.
