End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement ahead of today’s Supreme Court hearing in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which right-wing extremists hope will overturn Roe v. Wade:
“Today is the culmination of a three-quarters-of-a-billion dollar effort from extreme, right wing dark money groups hoping to overturn Roe v. Wade and eliminate women’s freedom to choose.
“Their multi-year, multi-million dollar attack on reproductive rights includes a capture of our court system, especially the Supreme Court. Dark money groups have raised over $250 million to push the courts rightward, and spent $17 million on anti-Merrick Garland and pro-Neil Gorsuch ads, at least $3 million to promote Amy Coney Barrett, and $17 million supporting Brett Kavanaugh.
“Meanwhile, radical anti-choice groups have spent almost half a billion dollars in dark money on lobbying, ads, and organizing to attack and rollback women’s reproductive health. And extremist conservative groups have made it more difficult to oppose anti-choice laws by silencing the voice and vote of the people through restricting access to voting and extreme partisan gerrymandering and anti-voter laws.
“The Supreme Court must reject these extreme dark money influences and protect established Supreme Court precedent by protecting women’s reproductive rights. The Court must uphold Roe v. Wade. A failure to do so would both be devastating for the rights of women across the country and would prove yet again that this court has been captured by dark money, partisan special interests who are wildly out of step with the rest of the country.”
