End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement on reports that President Trump is preparing an executive order to begin the process of eliminating the Department of Education:
“The reckless and half-witted decision to target the Department of Education has nothing to do with bringing down the costs of groceries or lowering the federal deficit and everything to do with dismantling the very institutions that help lift children and families out of poverty. Trump’s plan, which is taken directly from his Project 2025 playbook, would gut Head Start, end school lunch assistance, and funnel taxpayer dollars from public schools to private and religious institutions. It’s yet another move to rig the system for the wealthy and well-connected while directly attacking middle and lower income families.
“Congress has the authority and responsibility to put this reckless President in check, and Linda McMahon’s nomination hearing should be the first step in preventing this dangerous plan from becoming a reality.”
