Two Year Investigation Exposes Rep. David Schweikert’s Corruption

Jul 30, 2020

ECU named Rep. Schweikert to its Big Money 20 list last year because of his corruption scandals, including his ongoing House Ethics Committee investigation

After a two year House Ethics Committee investigation, Representative David Schweikert (AZ-06) today admitted to eleven rules violations, resulting in a $50,000 fine and a reprimand. The violations include misuse of campaign funds for personal spending, undisclosed campaign contributions and loans, pressuring office staffers to do campaign work, and improperly spending office funds. The committee unanimously decided that the Arizona Congressman had violated House Rules.

Throughout his time in office, Rep. Schweikert has been embroiled in one scandal after the next. Schweikert has routinely blurred the lines between his official duties and re-election campaigns, making him the subject of several ethics investigations regarding the misuse of taxpayer funds for personal activities and other violations of the law.

“Congressman David Schweikert is one of the most corrupt members of Congress, and today his corruption was finally exposed,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “He broke the rules, evaded responsibility, and repeatedly lied about it. While Schweikert illegally misuses Arizonans’ taxpayer funds for personal activities, Dr. Hiral Tiperneni has made rooting out corruption a cornerstone of her campaign. We look forward to helping replace this corrupt, self-serving politician with a leader who will always put Arizonans first.”

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) endorsed Dr. Hiral Tipirneni for Congress in AZ-06 because of her commitment to rooting out corruption and protecting the right to vote. Unlike Schweikert, Tipirneni is rejecting corporate PAC money and building a grassroots-powered campaign to bring change to Washington. Click here for more information on ECU’s Big Money 20 campaign.
