WASHINGTON — End Citizens United PAC today announced a digital ad campaign targeting House Republicans who recently voted to ban the IRS from collecting information on political contributors.
The ads target 10 House Republicans and calls on constituents to notify those members they are disappointed in their vote. End Citizens United is also running ads in 6 Democratic districts urging constituents to thank those Democrats for voting against the bill.
“Poll after poll shows Americans despise the corrupting influence of big money in politics,” said Tiffany Muller, Executive Director for End Citizens United. “Republicans are voting for bills that empower billionaires at the cost of middle class Americans because they don’t think voters will find out. We’re going to make sure Congress is held accountable for these disastrous votes.”
The ads encouraging constituents to express disappointment are currently running in the districts of Republicans Bob Dold, David Young, Rod Blum, Steve Knight, Ryan Zinke, Cresent Hardy, Will Hurd, Bruce Poliquin, Barbara Comstock and Joe Heck. The thank you ads are running in the districts of Democrats Julia Brownley, Pete Aguilar, Raul Ruiz, Scott Peters, Cheri Bustos, Brad Ashford and Tammy Duckworth.
A survey conducted earlier this year on behalf of End Citizens United showed that 75% of voters have an unfavorable opinion of the Citizens United decision. The same survey showed the issue of reducing the influence of special interests money in politics placed second in terms of priority with Independent voters — ranking only behind protecting our country from terrorism.
End Citizens United PAC was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. To date, more than 1.5 million grassroots members from every state and territory have taken action to support End Citizens United.
