End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s Decision to allow extreme partisan gerrymandering to continue in states:
“The Supreme Court’s decision to allow states to continue extreme partisan gerrymandering undermines our democracy and emboldens special interests. Partisan gerrymandering creates a rigged system that shields politicians from competitive elections, entrenching them in office and incentivising them to be more accountable to radical, mega donors than their constituents.
“The House of Representatives has done its job and passed the most sweeping set of anti-corruption reforms since Watergate. The For the People Act would ban partisan gerrymandering and return power over government to the American people. Senator McConnell should stop standing in the way and allow the Senate to vote on this critical piece of legislation. ECU and our 4 million members across the country will hold Mitch McConnell and every other senator who blocks these anti-corruption reforms accountable in 2020.”
