It was a busy Tuesday for GA-06 candidate Karen Handel who spent the day bouncing among three different D.C. fundraisers. With the latest polls showing Jon Ossoff surging, including a SurveyUSA poll that showed Ossoff 7 points ahead of Handel, Handel’s campaign has decided to focus its efforts on fundraising, hoping more special interest dollars will stop the bleeding.
One fundraiser in particular caught our eye over at End Citizens United – her evening fundraiser with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, one of her largest dark money supporters. This isn’t the first time the Chamber has gone to bat for Handel. After endorsing her in April, it quickly followed up with over $1,000,000 to support her campaign, including half a million in secret dark money attacking Ossoff.
The fundraiser follows revelations of Handel’s hypocrisy on PAC money. In October 2013, Handel told conservative writer Erick Erickson that, “The fact is that the career politicians… they’re pulling in the PAC dollars, and the last time I checked, Erick, political action committees, they don’t vote here in Georgia” – a criticism that she might not repeat on this campaign now that she’s accepted over $35,000 in PAC money.
