End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller Remarks on Representative Joe Morelle's Presidential Accountability Amendment

"Thank you, and good afternoon.

I’m Tiffany Muller, President of End Citizens United.

We’re a grassroots organization with over 4 million members committed to rooting out corruption in politics.

I want to thank Congressman Morelle for introducing this vital constitutional amendment—and for his continued leadership in holding both the President and the Supreme Court accountable.

We’re here today because a group of far-right justices—many appointed by Donald Trump himself—put partisan loyalty above their duty to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law.

In doing so, they handed down one of the most disastrous Supreme Court decisions of our lifetime.

By radically expanding presidential immunity, the Court gave unprecedented power to someone who has and continues to show clear authoritarian ambitions and open contempt for the rule of law.

This decision was a devastating blow to American democracy—and a direct threat to the fundamental freedoms our nation was built on.

In a functioning democracy, power is checked, laws apply to all, and presidents are not kings.

Congressman Morelle’s amendment reaffirms this essential truth and makes clear that no one—not even Donald Trump—stands above the law.

I urge every member of the House who values our democracy to take a stand and support this critical constitutional amendment."
